Live in Caregivers:

A live-in caregiver is someone who provides care to children, the elderly or the disabled in a private household without direct
supervision. Live in Caregivers live in the household of the employer.
There are many benefits to immigrate to Canada as a live in caregiver;

  • After working two years as a live-in caregiver, you can apply to become a permanent resident of Canada.
  • Nannies are given full benefits by their employer.
  • Live in Caregivers are provided with room and board.
  • Unlike other programs the Live in care giver does not need to prove that he or she will go back to the country of
    origin after the expiry of their visa.

Who qualifies to become a nanny;

  • A live-in caregiver must be approved at a visa office outside Canada to participate in the live-in caregiver program.
  • has successfully completed the equivalent of Canadian secondary education;
  • Must have either completed successfully six months of full time classroom training or an occupation related to the job
    in question or have completed one year of full time paid employment, including at least six months of continuous
    employment with one employer, in that field or occupation, within three years immediately prior to the day on which they
    submit an application for a work permit to a visa office;
  • Must have the ability to speak, read and understand either English or French language at a level to communicate
    effectively in an unsupervised situation and
  • Must have a written employment contract with their future employer.  

Note: Medical Professionals such as nurses can also apply as live in caregivers.

To be eligible to become a sponsor you must have the following;

  • Must meet the minimum income requirement (LICO) as stipulated by Canadian Regulations
  • Must be able show that your circumstances are such that you require the services of a live in care giver.
  • Must be able to provide accommodations for the live in caregiver
  • Must be able to provide a formal written contact between you and the live in care giver.
